and watching two couples that came in after us, waited on, the waiter comes our way and takes our order-first red flag. We go in and no one is at the hostess stand. I went to visit for lunch for my birthday. I had never been to Bus Boys and Poets and won’t go again. I am no expert on dining etiquette but I am pretty sure grits should be eaten with a tablespoon which is NOT the kind of spoon I received! This establishment appeared to be a little more than casual dining and I expected attention to this kind of detail - the proper eating utensil! At these prices, attentive customer service goes a long way. I was disappointed that our server appeared to just grab any spoon. Grits which included a delicious sauce needed to be eaten with a spoon in my opinion. When we finally received flatware, we discovered there was no spoon included! Normally, knife, fork, and spoon are included in place settings but not here. We had to ask two different servers for assistance. Everyone in my party enjoyed their food but unfortunately the food arrived at our table WITHOUT any flatware. I told her that this was my first time ordering shrimp and grits. But she shared with me that the shrimp and grits were wonderful and she was certain that I would enjoy this dish. Our server was a lovely young woman whose name escapes me. Although it was lunch time and fairly crowded, we were seated immediately. This was my first time dining at Busboys and Poets and I was a little hesitant. Parking is sufficient even when crowded, as they have ample parking, including an indoor lot. The salmon entree, falafel salad and falafel sandwich looked amazing! I enjoyed walking around to view the attractive colorful restaurant vibe, and shall return to try some of the other items. The vanilla ice cream was better than the pie. I switched to the apple pie with vanilla ice cream, which was mediocre. The pudding tasted like it was made a couple days ago, and was not served warm as stated. Neither did I like, and had to send back after the first bite. I tried the white chocolate banana bread pudding which came with coconut ice cream. The desserts need some improvement, not their strong suit. The sauce it comes with was not to my liking, so I switched the sauce to the lemon sauce option, which went very well with the dish. The lightly fried catfish entree was very good, served with tasty collard greens and jalapeño cheddar grits. The bar only had a handful of people seated at 4:00 pm. The service was slow, as the bartender was pleasant, however, very slow to check on the food. On my first visit, I sat at the bar to have an early dinner. The decor is a lovely nicely appointed 2-level restaurant and bar, with an upstairs outdoor deck.
